To blog or not to blog......or, personal musings from hill country house

I so wish I could keep up with all the great blogs out there who post every day or so, with interesting stories and great photos, but my life just doesn't seem to work that way.

Bat Cat, 19 years and counting...

I spend a lot of time with a dear old kitty who is just hanging on, but loves to be held and brushed and talked to.

I spend time with these two goofballs, oops, I mean sweethearts...................trying to stay involved with my daughter's school and preparing a healthy dinner each night and fighting for the 15 or 20 minutes that we three sit at the dinner table together.............before the phone rings or homework calls or whatever other interruption that seems to occur regularly whenever we try to have family time.........

I treasure any time I can get with this man I love. This must have been a Saturday - my usual, no make up and a comfy Mexican dress! I think we had just made homemade ice cream here - looks like we made a bit of a mess!

If I am lucky I get some text messages from this cutie pie several times a day, and if I am really lucky, I get a nice, long chat with her!!

She loves to cook when she is at home. I don't even complain about the mess anymore - I am just thrilled when she is here!

Some days I get to spend time with repairmen who check gas leaks and ovens that don't work, and dryers that decide to quit, or I talk to computerized systems (God forbid a person answer the phone!) at Lowes trying to understand why, oh why, no one really cares that my warranty doesn't guarantee that anyone will actually show up to repair the dryer.........or trying to figure out the latest mystery this week - the flashing red light on the thermostat ( I know, it's all so fascinating) and grocery shopping and running to the bank and the cleaners, and did I mention the six dogs that love to be fed and talked to and played with?

Buster Brown

Amos, one of two English setters, brother to Andy

Of course, the Bud man

Yes, I know this is just three - I promise you , there are three more!

Soon it will be track season again and there go Saturdays ..........................

and this spring is time for more college visits...............hmmm.....wonder if we could we choose our visits based on good architecture and university owned art collections?

Speaking of art collections, I nearly ran off the road the other day on my way to the post office. Stopped at a light, I glanced over at Insight Gallery on Main Street and saw this magnificent painting by one of my most favorite artists in the world, Donna Howell- Sickles. Her work just brings me pure joy - it makes me smile from the inside out.

So, how do you find time to read all the fabulous blogs out there, and the even bigger question is how do you people (you know who you are!) find time to create such long and interesting posts? Tell me later - I better get to the grocery store - we are supposed to have snow and ice later today and the Thanksgiving leftovers just can't quite cut it for another weekend!

  1. I so understand, and don't think I don't think about all the time I waste blogging. I think about quitting every other day...thanks for hanging in there.

  2. The fact is there isn't enough time for it all. I know, there are so many amazing blogs with such profoundly beautiful people behind them, and I am often sad that I can't visit more and see their ideas and get to know them better. Such beautiful people in this world. It sounds like your life is very full and it is a full-time job keeping up a house, healthy meals, exercise, a little family time and strong relationships!

Hang in there! Sometimes I want to give up blogging and spend more time on "real" people and make more "real" friends, but I have never found such good listeners and supporters as here - such positive energy and a constant reminder of all the good in the world. Oh, and all the love!

Write when you can, visit who you can, and try not to worry about visiting everyone. Sometimes I just write a line to people now, letting them know I have been there and that I think of them.

Life is busy, too busy, and I don't know what the answer is, but I do think all you can do is your best and not worry about whether everything gets 100%. : )

  3. And stop moderating your comments. Don't be afraid to let everyone in on the fun!

  4. I can sleep when I die ha ha.
It's better to be busy than to have nothing to do, or no one to do it for. Your life (including your blog) is full and rich, and you sound very happy (and loved).
Just blog, long or short, whenever you feel like it. And don't compare yourself to other blogs. We all do what we do, which is reinvent the wheel, but as it is often pointed out, it's how we wear the wheel that makes each one of us a special.

  5. First of all, you have one very handsome family! And secondly... I hear ya!!
I think a lot of people feel this way, so don't feel alone! I often wonder how many of us will be around in six months/a year.... I know I feel like once I do my reveals that will about do it for me:)!
I agree with the other comments that we just need to not put more pressure on ourselves and post and visit when you can and it will all be good!! I like the idea of short posts, I think I will incorporate more of those myself.
    Hope you are well! j.

  7. here's my blogging rule: there's no right or wrong!
i think we always find time to the do the things we love! if you enjoy it then do it and if you don't, move on! life is too short!
If your bucket is anything like mine there's no worry filling it up with something else!
those of us who love your blog will always stop by to see if you have a new post and if you don't, well, we'll wait a few days and stop by again!

  8. I second what the Vamp said - just do what you can and enjoy it for what it is. It's better to live life than simply document it!

  9. I am sooo with you. There is LIFE besides blogging. Don't forget that some have time while they are at work, other's have the computer imbedded to their hips. I have difficulty as well because I am not willing to sit (sitting is hard for me, I need to be up and about!) all the hours necessary to create a well thought out post and I (honestly) am just not as creative as some!
I love hearing from you though and just do what you can. Your kids are THE most important.
    Blessings...

  10. Ann, Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful family, home and menagerie of dear pets with us! I love this type of post as much as any, because it let's us get to know the person behind the blog! It's what connects us and makes this blogging so much fun for me. You are right though, there are so many fantastic blogs and bloggers out there and not enough time in the day to visit them all, c' est la vie!

  11. Let me start off by saying that I love this post because I can so relate! It's very hard to get to everyone's blog all the time and even harder to always have something to blog about! I agree with Janet, there is no right or wrong. If you can find the time, great and if not then that's fine, too!

    Have a great week!

  12. I struggle with the same thing. I am so behind on my blog reading and I have started taking a day or two off and guess what? the world didn't stop spinning. In fact I am not sure that many people even noticed. Just blog when you can and know we will all be happy to hear from you!!

  13. It sounds like we have amny in the same boat! I am definitely one of them. I wish there were two of me! Sometimes a ball gets dropped. I try not to let the irreparable balls drop, just the bouncy ones!
