Damn Hot, Mommy

One day, many years ago, the little princess in the blue dress (with chocolate pudding on her face) arrived home after morning soccer practice.

I greeted her with
"Hey Sweet Pea, how was soccer practice today?"
To which this little toot replied..........

"It was DAMN hot, Mommy".

At that point my assistant, you know, the mothering ten year old, (pink dress, top picture) gave me a sideways glance and whispered "Did you HEAR what she said?!!"

Ever the diligent mother, I asked the precious little foul mouthed one.....

"Excuse me, what did you say?"

I said  "It was DAMN hot, Mommy".

The conversation continued....

"Oh honey, we don't say DAMN......

We say "It was hot as fire" or "It was hot as blazes" or even "It was REALLY, REALLY hot"
(raising my voice to sound silly and emphasize REALLY)

Silence.

Finally, with a look of resignation, like... You . just. do. not. get it.....

"But Mommy, it WAS damn hot. "
Period.
And so it was, and it still is.......

DAMN HOT.

Enjoy.

  6. After my first October trip to Round Top several years ago...I
gained respect for Texans surviving 'HOT'.

One of the wonders of children..they always say what is on their mind...and often ours.

  7. well she was right then and still is! Damn hot is a defining characteristic of summertime. But so much better than shoveling snow, at least in my opinion. Thank goodness for air conditioning, popsicles, swimming pools and the respite of those luxurious landscapes in your dream collection :) -diane

  8. Damn hot indeed! And those east coasters are complaining....don't they realize we do this 5 months out of the year? Of course, luckily we have our A/C!

Hope you're having a good hot summer!

  9. Hi there!
I stumbled upon your blog while looking for some redecorating ideas. I will have lived in Fredericksburg for a year come August! So nice to "meet" you.

(And I have to agree with your daughter)!

  10. Ha ha! That is too cute. Sometimes you just gotta laugh. Children are so innocent.

I am loving those beautiful pool photos. I am really missing mine. I am thinkng we might need to add a pool to the lake house one day. ;-)

  12. Too cute!
Hope you're enjoying a nice summer -- despite the heat. I hate to tempt you, but it's cool here in CO. (I must admit, though, we've had some still nights, which translate into very warm and rather uncomfortable interiors. We have no AC here in the mountains. Luckily, I think the worst might be over. I hope. my best...-s
